The development of Lesna
The history of LESNA chip board factory begins in 1973, this was the start of manufacturing chipboards from rest wood in Šentjanž, Dravograd. The initial production was 70,000 m3 of raw and approx 1,000,000 m2 of melamine coated chipboards annually. The press was made up of 7 stories and was the most advanced in technical terms in those days.
The demands of the furniture industry dictated the increase in the use of chipboards and so the production was doubled in 1978 with the introduction of a second production line.
In 1979 Lesna became an independent private limited company and incorporated the services which had previously been provided from the headquarters of Lesna in Slovenj Gradec. The company had 174 employees in 1979/80 and due to the expansion it later grew to 235.
A big organisation change happened in 2001 as Lesna TIP joined the group PREVENT. The change of management brought an important investment cycle which enabled the further existence of the company and future business:
- 2002:
- The new dryer has enabled bigger production capacity, even drying and an increase in the quality of the chipboards.
- The acquisition of the certificate ISO 9001.
- 2004:
- The expansion of the storehouse for finished products and a modernisation of equipment as well as the acquisition of a newer production line for melamine coated chipboards which was relocated from the production line of the woodchip board factory in Meblo in Nova Gorica. The new line has increased the production of melamine coated chipboards to approx 8 mio m2 boards, the quality has also increased.
- The acquisition of the certificate ISO 14001.
- 2006:
- The start of construction of the new computer controlled line for the production of woodchip boards – a continuous press, which was in full operation in 2007. The new press has increased production to 30,000 m3 of raw chipboards annually which comprises the input of wood biomass up to 50,000 m3.
- The acquisition and restart of the production of INTERIOR DOORS AND FRAMES. The restart of ex Lesna Pohištvo in Prevalje and Pameče has enabled Lesna TIP to expand their production line to interior doors which have been a success in the marked in the past three years.
- The acquisition and management of LESNA ŽAGA OTIŠKI VRH PLC. The sawing company has a more than forty year long tradition and processes more than 40,000 m3 of wood annually. The technological modernisations have also started on Žaga and from 2007 on the sawing is performed also on a modern band saw machine.
- A reward for an energy efficient company.
The integration of sawing production, chipboards and interior door programmes has started the fulfilment of a long-year dream of the wood producers in the Koroška valley to integrate primary and final wood production i.e. the creation of a PRIMARY COMPLEX FOR THE PROCESSING OF WOOD.
The so-called primary complex for the processing of wood will strive for added value in wood on the local market and at the same time for a suitable handling of wood and the preservation of woods which are our biggest wealth.
